Christmas in Weston 2019

Now in its 35th year, “Christmas in Weston” is a day-long event celebrating traditional holiday nostalgia taking place on Saturday, December 7, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors are treated to a host of free, fun events and activities for all ages at galleries, shops, museums and inns throughout the scenic village and enjoy delicious food at local restaurants.

This event is also an opportunity for the community to highlight a local charity that works tirelessly for those in our community needed help.  Funds raised through donations, raffle, and food sales at designated vendors from this event will go to the Little School here in Weston.

The Little School is an inclusive early childhood program located in Weston, Vermont. The school began in 1976 at its present location in a historic landmark building constructed in 1861 as the elementary schoolhouse for the community’s children.

Today, we serve children ages 2- to 5-year-olds from Weston and surrounding towns, including Chester, Andover, Ludlow, Cavendish, Peru, Landgrove and Londonderry. The Little School offers families the opportunity to choose a preschool that is safe and nurturing, while providing the highest quality early education. We offer two, three, and five-day a week schedules, including half day and full day options.

Organization volunteers will be on hand at the Weston Village Green, so visitors can learn more about this essential organization to the community.

“This event offers a wide range of holiday –themed performances and activities for children and adults alike,” said Jim Szabo, director of retail at The Vermont Country Store and president of the Weston Business Council. “It’s a Vermont Christmas experience that you’ll remember for a lifetime.’

Visitors can start the morning off with a tantalizing breakfast at the Colonial House Inn, and tour the village on foot or by two horse-drawn wagons (weather permitting). Children will enjoy visiting with Santa and the petting farm by North Meadow Farms, at The Vermont Country Store.  For some hands-on activities, the little ones can make crafts at the historic Little School then go and enjoy a reading of The Night Before Christmas with Mimi Neff at the Wilder Memorial Library.

Later on, enjoy a hearty lunch at the Bryant House Restaurant, a cappuccino and cannoli at the Village Green Gallery, or enjoy grilled hamburgers and hot dogs cooked up hot by the Weston Fire Department, followed up with an afternoon libation at The Landgrove Inn.

Those who linger into the latter part of the day, can stay for the Inn at Weston’s special Christmas dinner and night of holiday music.  One-of-a-kind gifts are available at the Vermont Country Store, Weston Village Store, The Weston Village Christmas Shop, and The Village Green Gallery.  Food on the go is being offered by the Weston Women’s Club at their Holiday Cookie Sale, and at the Little School where folks can enjoy hot soup, grilled sausage and peppers with baked goods and hot cider.

Magician Doug Eash who is “just plain cool” will amaze the kid in all of us with two shows of magic and fun at the Playhouse on the Green.

Music is alive in the Village of Weston this year.  The Church on the Hill will have live Christmas caroling featuring Patricia Connelly. In addition, “A Christmas Carol” reading will be performed at the Old Parish Church by the players from the Weston Playhouse Theater Company and audience participation. Your hearts will be warmed with the caroling of the Burr Burton School chorus as they welcome Santa to the Village Green for the lighting of the Weston Christmas Tree.
